How To Decorate A Dining Room Buffet Table - HOME By KMB

Now that I’ve finished decorating our playroom (see the reveal here!), I’m moving on to giving our dining room a little makeover. One piece of furniture that is definitely staying in our current dining room is this buffet table.

Eventually, I’m going to replace our dining room table and chairs as well because the table is too small for the space.

But first, I’m focusing on decorating the buffet table! Keep reading to see three different design options for your dining room buffet or sideboard!

Old Dining Room Buffet Table Decor

In addition to the buffet table, I am also going to keep the canvas prints above it. I found them at HomeGoods a few years ago and the colors go perfectly with the buffet.

These are the problems I see with my current dining room buffet decor:

1. Faux Greenery does not look realistic.
2. The picture frame is awkward.
3. I would prefer to all alcohol/decanters to be housed in one place – on our bar cart!
4. I would like to layer my decor better so that the middle doesn’t feel as empty.

Below are 3 designs I put together to update my buffet table decor!

Option 1: Natural Buffet Table Decor

This option adds better greenery and flowers using neutral tones and pieces I already own. In my opinion, larger stems often look more realistic. I already have the candles and the tuscan pot. As you can see in this picture, decorating a buffet is easiest in sets of 3 – ie. 3 candles of varying heights on one side, a larger vase, smaller flower, and accent piece on the other side.

Option 2: Buffet Table Decor Anchored by Lamps

This option shows lamps on either side of the buffet, which adds good height and weight to the ends of the table as these are substantial lamps. I like the symmetry this option provides, but I don’t think I need any additional light in my space. You should also add other texture and shorter items as I’ve shown with the clock and bone boxes with beads layered on top.

Option 3: Buffet Table Decor with One Lamp and Greenery

Another option is to combine the two by using one anchor lamp and one item of greenery to anchor the other side. In this design, I used two picture frames of vary sizes to solve my issue of the awkward picture frame. Picture frames tend to look best in sets!
