Facebook is the world’s largest social media website. People are constantly using it, uploading a multitude of photos every day. After all, potential employers often browse through your photos, and there are likely old memories you’d rather not revisit. As a result, you may eventually want to manage your photo privacy, delete a few of them, or even erase all your Facebook posts. In this article, we will guide you on how to delete Facebook photos on almost any platform.

To delete Facebook photos, go to the photo you wish to delete. Select the three-dot icon and in the drop-down menu, select Delete Photo. You can also do the same to delete whole albums.

There are some minor caveats, though. You cannot delete photos you did not upload to Facebook yourself. However, you can remove the tag, which will remove the photo from your profile. Additionally, you can ask friends to remove Facebook photos from their profiles. If the photo is particularly egregious, you can also report the photo and hope that Facebook takes it down for violating the terms of service. This tutorial only works for the Facebook photos you uploaded.

How to delete Facebook photos (Android and iOS)

The mobile Facebook app isn’t quite as powerful as it used to be. It’s actually a fairly poor place to manage all of your Facebook photos. However, you can do some basic pruning with the mobile app if you really need to.

Deleting individual photos:

1. Access your Photos on your profile page, select Uploads, and open the photo you want to delete.

3. Choose the Delete photo option.
4. Confirm the deletion, and the photo will be removed. This method works for profile photos and cover photos too.

Deleting albums on Facebook:

1. Navigate to your profile page, select Photos, and access the Albums tab.
2. Choose an album, go to its main page, and tap the three-dot menu button in the top right corner.

3. Select Delete and confirm the deletion to remove both the album and all photos inside it.

We should also note here that you cannot delete some albums, including Profile Pictures, Featured Photos, Videos, or Cover Photos. The three-dot option does not appear for those albums.

How to delete Facebook photos (desktop)

The website version works almost exactly like the apps do these days. You can delete single photos or photo albums, much like the mobile versions. Also, since this does work the same on any web browser, this method works for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Deleting individual photos:

It’s easy to delete individual Facebook photos on the web, and there are two ways to do it. Thankfully, both methods are short and quick to access.

Method one

1. Open any photo on the website, and then click the three-dot menu on the far right.
2. A menu will appear. Select Delete Photo, and Facebook will ask if you’re sure. Click on Delete to confirm, and the photo is gone.

Method two

1. Go to your profile and click the Photos tab to view all your photos in a grid.
2. In the top right corner of each photo, there’s an icon with a pencil. Click it, choose Delete Photo, and confirm the deletion to complete the process.

Optionally, you can also remove tags with this method. Simply use the Remove Tag option when you see it.

Deleting albums on Facebook:

1. Navigate to your profile on the website and click the Photos tab. On the next page, select Albums.
2. In the Albums page, click on three-dot icon at the top-right of each of your albums and choose Delete album.
3. Confirm your decision by clicking Delete album once again.

Please note that when you delete a Facebook album, all the photos within the album will also be deleted.

How to delete Facebook photos (mobile web)

Deleting a photo on the mobile web is quite similar to the mobile app steps. Follow these instructions to remove a photo from your Facebook account on the mobile web.

Deleting individual photos:

There are a couple of minor methods. To be honest, this version of Facebook feels a lot more disorganized than the desktop website or the mobile app. Anyway, here we go:

1. Open your browser, go to Facebook, and log in if you haven’t already.
2. Navigate to your profile, scroll down, and tap on Photos.
3. Find the photo you want to delete, tap it to open, and select the three-dot button at the top right.
4. From the options, choose Delete, and confirm on the next page to delete the photo.

Deleting albums on Facebook:

Again, this is only slightly different from the regular website and mobile apps. However, it’s different enough to be potentially confusing. Please note you cannot delete Facebook-made albums such as Profile Photos or Cover Photos this way. It only works with the albums you created.

1. Navigate to Facebook’s website and access your profile as usual.
2. Scroll down on your profile and click on the Photos option.
3. In the top half of the next screen, you’ll see your albums. Select the specific album you want to delete.
4. Tap on the three-dot menu in the top right and choose Delete album.

How to mass delete Facebook photos using a Chrome extension

If you want to mass-delete photos on Facebook, Google Chrome extensions like Delete My Posts on Facebook provide a convenient solution. While it may take a couple of attempts, we successfully used this extension. Here’s how:

1. Install Delete My Posts on Facebook Chrome extension. Open the extension, and it will direct you to your Facebook Activity Log page with various options.
2. You can choose to delete your timeline posts, photos & videos, comments, and more. Additionally, you can filter content based on specific dates. For our test, we selected Photos & Videos and filtered for October 2023.
3. After selecting your options click Start.

5. Wait for the extension to process (Note that it may take some time, as observed in our test). Once it’s done, click Done to complete the process.
