This wikiHow teaches you how to prevent your United States-based iPhone from adding the outbound calling code (such as 0044 in the UK) and the prefix “1” when dialing US numbers abroad. If you’re in another country and having trouble calling non-US numbers, this may resolve your issue.

Steps

1. 1 Open your iPhone’s Settings. It's the app with a gray gear icon on your home screen.
2. 2 Scroll down and tap Phone. It’s in the fifth group of settings. Advertisement
3. 3 Slide the “Dial Assist” switch to the Off position. The switch will turn gray.
   • When dialing contacts in the United States, you’ll need to add your current country’s outbound calling code (for example, Australia’s is 0011) and the number 1 to the beginning of each phone number. For example, 212-555-1212 becomes 001 1 212-555-1212.[1]
