Children will love learning how to draw a porcupine in today’s drawing lesson.

Included are 6 easy steps to follow, children will enjoy drawing their own spiky little porcupine on paper. Also included is a downloadable version (near bottom of page).

Covered in dangerous spikes called “quills” porcupines are one of natures amazing animals. Their quills are a defense against other predators.

Materials

• Pencil
• Drawing Paper
• Crayons or Colored Pencils
• Black Marker (optional)

We will complete a drawing of a porcupine by crafting one section at a time. The drawing will take 6 steps to complete as we continue to create each part which will get us closer to the completed work of art. The completed drawing will be topped off with color creating a drawing you will be proud of!

Time Needed: 20 minutes

1. Outline The Body

   

   Outline the shape of the porcupine’s body as shown.

2. Add The Face

   

   First, add a shaded oval for the eye. Next, draw a curved line for the nose. Then, create a line curving upwards for the mouth.

3. Attach The Legs

   

   To draw the porcupine’s legs, form an elongated U-shaped line with a zigzag shape at the bottom. Then, draw the foot attached to the bottom of each leg as shown.

4. Form The Coat Of Quills

   

   Form the coat of quills on the porcupine’s back by drawing a pointy rounded shape.

5. Add Texture

   

   Add texture to the coat of quills by drawing short pointy lines.

6. Complete The Porcupine Drawing

   

   Let’s add some color to our porcupine drawing! First, use a brown crayon to shade the nose, feet and quills. Next, use a light orange crayon to color the rest of the porcupine’s body.
