Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Roller Coaster
How to Draw a Great Looking Roller Coaster for Kids and Beginners - Step 1
1. Begin by sketching part of the track. Draw three sets of parallel, curved lines. Each set of lines should meet at a gentle point. Connect them using curved lines to form a tongue-like shape.
Drawing Step 2
2. Draw the next section of roller coaster track. From each of the original sets of lines, extend another pair of curved, parallel lines. Allow all three sets to meet at a point. Then, from the upper set of lines, draw three more sets of curved, parallel lines. Bring each set to a point so that it curves to meet the set below it. Erase as necessary where lines overlap.

3. From the previous sets of lines, draw three more sets of curved, parallel lines. Curve them so that they meet at a point.
Drawing Step 4
4. Draw pairs of straight, parallel lines between the sections of the track so that they form "V" shapes.
Drawing Step 5
5. Support your rollercoaster with upright legs. For each leg, extend a pair of straight, parallel lines downward from the track. Draw a straight horizontal line beneath the leg and connect them using curved lines.
Drawing Step 6
6. Draw a car on top of the roller coaster track. Use curved lines to outline the car, its front and side, and the seating area.
Drawing Step 7
7. Erase the track where it overlaps with the car. Then, used curved lines to outline the safety bar, embellish the car with decorations, and sketch the wheels between the car and the track.

8. Erase as needed where the car overlaps the tracks. Then, sketch two happy children riding the roller coaster. Use curved lines to outline the legs, torsos, and outstretched arms. Use narrow "U" shaped lines to enclose the fingers, and band the arms with curved lines to create sleeves. Outline the faces, hair, eyes, nose, and mouth. Use short curved lines to texture the hair.

9. Draw two ovals on the front of the car. Then, draw a slightly smaller oval inside each. Finally, draw curved lines around the car to indicate movement.

Learn More About The Roller Coaster Drawing
A roller coaster is a type of railway that is elevated and which has steep ascents and descents. Unlike most railways, roller coasters won't take you anywhere - in fact, most let you off at the same platform used to board. Instead of travel, roller coasters are designed to produce thrills and pure fun.
The predecessor of the modern roller coaster was created in Russia during the 1400s. Called "flying mountains," these consisted of large sleds and man-made hills of ice.
Later, carriages were developed that rode in grooved tracks. Wheels were added in 1804.
In America, roller coasters had their start with the "Gravity Road," which was used for hauling coal in the morning and passengers in the afternoon.
By the end of the 1800s, trolley companies began building amusement parks at the line's end to attract more riders. Coney Island in New York City was among the most famous.

Today, well-known amusement parks around the world include Disneyland, Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, and Six Flags.
These parks offer a number of indoor and outdoor roller coasters as well as other rides like the Ferris Wheel.
Did you know? The world's tallest roller coaster at 456 feet (139 meters) is the Kingda Ka at Six Flags of New Jersey, USA. The oldest operational coaster is Leap-the-Dips in Pennsylvania, USA. Its top speed is 10 miles per hour.
