How to Draw a Great Looking Troll for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin by using a long curved line to outline the shape of the head. Notice the bulge of the brow and the squareness of the jaw.

2. Use a curved line to outline the lower lip. Draw a shorter curved line below it to contour the chin. Then, use curved lines to enclose the rounded triangular teeth.

3. Draw two large ovals to form the eyes. Complete the side of the face with a curved line.

4. Draw a curved line across each eye to form the eyelid. Use long curved lines to outline the crooked nose, and to contour the brow and cheek.

5. Draw the troll’s ears, erasing as necessary. Use curved lines to outline the pointed ears, and to contour the inside of each ear. Enclose a partial circle within each eye to form the pupil.

6. Use a curved line to enclose the neck of the garment and another for the shoulder. Draw the opposite side of the arm using a curved line, and connect it to the existing line using a series of short lines that meet at jagged points to form the frayed edges of the cloth. From the sleeve, extend a pair of curved lines to outline the arm and hand. Enclose the fingers using overlapping curved lines.

7. Draw a club in the troll’s hand. From each side, extend a curved line and double it back upon itself to enclose an irregular shape. Texture the club with a crooked “T” shaped line.

8. Use curved lines to outline the side of the troll’s torso, the bottom of his belly, the bottom of his shirt, and his belly button.

9. Extend three curved lines from the body to form the sides of the legs. Connect them with curved lines at the bottom. Then, use overlapping curved lines to enclose the feet and toes.

A troll or trow is a legendary creature from Scandinavian folklore. The troll was thought to be a "giant, monstrous being, sometimes possessing magic powers."

They were said to live in castles and patrol the surrounding areas at night - never did they venture forth in the day, lest they burst or turn into stone. This type of troll was depicted in the animated series The Gummy Bears.

Later legends depicted trolls as being the size of a man, dwarf, or elf. These trolls were said to live in the mountains, steal young women, and shape-shift. Modern children's tales, such as "Three Billy Goats Gruff," cast trolls living under bridges, exacting a toll for passage.

Since 1959, "troll dolls" or "good luck trolls" have been an on-again-off-again fad. The dolls were invented by a Danish fisherman who couldn't afford to buy a Christmas gift for his daughter, and so "carved the doll from his imagination."

Other children wanted one, the fisherman opened a toy company, and the collectible craze soon spread around the world.

During the 1990s and 2000s, the Trolls starred in several animated series and video games. In 2016, the Trolls got an updated look with the release of 2016 animated film, but they kept their characteristic pointed hair.
