Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. For every step, sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake.

Step 1: Draw two short, wide arcs for the top parts of the eyes. Draw both arcs the same shape and size. The dotted line in the middle is to help you visualize the distance between the eyes. That means that the space between the eyes is the width of another arc of the same size.

If you need help with the spacing of the eyes, then draw the arc on the far left side first. Then directly to it’s right, lightly sketch another arc of the exact same width (this is represented by the dotted line). Then to the right of that, draw the arc for the eye on the right using yet another arc of the exact same size. Erase the middle arc when you get the sizes right. 

Make the shapes of the arcs thick to represent eyelashes. The outer tips should be wide and round and the inner tips should be pointy.

Step 2: On the outer tip of each arc, draw a pointy line that curves down and in. At the bottom of each arc, draw a thin line for the bottom parts of the eyes. You can connect the sides of the eyes to the bottom but it looks cooler to have a small gap in the bottoms of the eyes.

Step 3: Draw a series of tiny, triangular, curved spikes along the top of the eyes for individual eyelashes. Don’t draw too many; about four or five along the top will do. The eyelashes near the inner tips point down and in. Add a few tiny triangular shapes at the bottom for the lower eyelashes too.

Step 4: Inside each eye shape, draw a big circular shape for the irises. The shapes are basically ovals with the top parts hiding behind the top edges of the eyes. They’re kind of like rounded letter U’s. It’s important to make each side the same, so sketch lightly at first and take your time until you get the shapes right.

Step 5: Inside each iris, draw a big oval for the pupils. Draw the pupils directly in the middle of each eye. Shade the inside of the ovals. Pay attention to the sizes of the pupils in relation to the irises.

Step 6: On the left side of each iris, draw a small circle for some highlight or glare. Draw the circles directly over the edges of the irises. The lines inside the highlight circles will be erased at a later step. On the inside of each iris, on the lower, right side, draw an even smaller circle for more highlights. These circles aren’t directly on the edge of the irises, they’re inside completely for a bit more variety.

Step 7: Above each eye, not too high up, draw a long, curved horizontal line for the folds of the eyelids. The tips of these lines should be pointy. It’s okay if you overlap the eyelashes a bit.

Step 8: High above each eye, draw a thick, long horizontal line for the eyebrows. The outer ends of the eyebrows should be pointy and the inner sections thick. The inner tips should point down so that the eyebrows slope downward a bit in the middle. Make both sides the same. The eyes should be as symmetrical as you can make them.

Step 9: Using a pen or marker, go over the lines to make your drawing permanent. Ink slowly and carefully to avoid accidents. When you ink the irises, DON’T trace over the lines that are inside the small highlight circles. The insides of the small highlight circles should be blank. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your drawing! This drawing was colored digitally using a gradient that goes from dark green to light green. The same can be achieved with color pencils, markers or crayons! Start coloring the eye dark green at the top and then slowly and lightly transition to light green or yellow-green at the bottom. You can also use dark blue at the top and light blue at the bottom for a blue eyes. Using two colors gives the iris a more rounded feel. For a simpler drawing, you can also just use a single color for the iris. You can also use any other color you want like purple or orange.
