Mistletoe is a small, parasitic plant that grows on trees and shrubs. Mistletoe draws water and nutrients from the host plant while remaining attached to it. Mistletoe can be found on most continents.
Mistletoe has been used for centuries as a decoration at Christmas time. It symbolizes peace to some people because they think that its white berries represent purity or forgiveness while its yellow flowers represent love. It has been a tradition to hang a sprig of Mistletoe in a doorway and once two people are under it they should kiss.
But where did this strange mistletoe tradition come from?
Mistletoe was traditionally kissed under during the ancient Greek festival of Saturnalia and during marriage ceremonies because the plant was associated with fertility.

This is an attempt at a holly sprig. Mistletoe (as associated with Christmas) has white berries and smooth, elongated leaves.
