How To Draw Tie Dye With Water-Based Markers - Ellen Hutson Blog

We love tie dye for summer cardmaking and did you know that you can create it with markers? Our amazing EH Design Ambassador Sandy Allnock is sharing a video tutorial today to show you how to make these gorgeous tie dye cards!

Shoutout to all my COLOR PEOPLE! This tutorial is filled with EYE candy – lots of happy color created with only 3 markers….to create tie dye! They’re done in water based markers on Canson XL paper so I didn’t have any texture to deal with.
The first card is straight-up tie dye – I found several online tutorials that had different directions than what I found worked, but I’m glad I saw those to get a start on it. It’s always fun to try things out to see what’ll happen once I put my own spin on it too! I drew a spiral and started making the first round of color – then rather than drawing more spirals, I just added the next color’s lines – and didn’t have to “cover” any more spiral lines!

To finish this one I cut it down to a square card and added a layered sentiment – the top piece was a scrap that I colored with the same markers first, and die cute it with Be Creative tape on the back. When I peeled the letters out, they wer ea sticker, ready made for the card!

The second card was inspired by an earlier fail – when I had used too much water! Rather than kicking the idea aside entirely, I added the water where I *wanted* it – to wash out the color in the right ways!

I finished this with an embossed sentiment, which is perfect for the AMAZING word in the random sayings stamp set!

I created both of these with simple water-based Tombow markers! And only three colors…you’ll get all kinds of results with other colors too! The colors are included in my set of Tombows- which are my faves!
