Always drank my coffee black, no cream or sugar. It’s an acquired taste, like liquor, beer or that stupid smoking habit. Roast and brewing while subjective really does matter. I’m a 100% Columbian guy. On occasion I will add a little milk to coffee that’s sat cooking on the drip maker for a no sugar slightly diluted dark.
I used to use half and half and a tablespoon of sugar. After I would feel vaguely nauseous and kind of weak and just assumed it was the coffee. A few years ago I decided I needed to loose about 60 lbs of body weight and went full black coffee. Indeed it took some getting used to but now I would never drink coffee with any additives. Also I make it very strong to the point that in the cup around the edges it has a orange-yellow color. I only drink one cup. I have absolutely none of the previous issues anymore so I believe the negatives I experienced were from the additives – period. Go Black and never look back!
I’ve been drinking black coffee for 2 months now because I started intermittent fasting, and I still don’t enjoy it and only do it because I have to. I hear a lot of people start preferring black coffee once they switch, but for me, it’s still a sacrifice.

Me too. For years I’ve tried on and off. Months at a time. Weened myself off slowly etc —I just don’t look forward to Plain coffee or have my eyes roll back in my head from a great cup I’d been looking forward to. Could it be genetic like people who don’t like cilantro because it tastes like soap to them? I would do anything to enjoy black coffee for the health but also the bother of additives is cumbersome and I’d love to just pour and go. Sigh.
Never drank it any other way.
