If you need to make adjustments to your schedule at the start of the term, the last day to drop full term classes with 100% tuition cancellation is census date as listed on the Academic and Registration Calendar.    Remember there are many campus resources available to help you stay on top of your courses such as the Academic Success Center, Advising, and the University Libraries.

Some considerations before dropping a class:

Check your total credits

• If you need to be a full-time student (completing at LEAST 12 credits per fall/winter semester for undergraduate students, 8 minimum for graduate students), withdrawing from a course will reduce your number of enrolled credits and may reduce your award for the semester.
• Undergraduate students registered for 12-18 credits will not receive a tuition refund if they are still within the 12-18 credits for flat-rate tuition.  Dropping below 12 credits will result in your tuition being reassessed at the per credit hour rate.  You can estimate your tuition using the Tuition Calculator.
• Many students including student athletes, international students, scholarship recipients and others must maintain full-time status.
• After the first week of classes, you may need permission from the department offering the course to register late for a class. There is no guarantee a late override will be granted.

Meet with your advisor 

• Your advisor can help you figure out alternatives to your schedule, but remember that the start of the semester is a very busy time for everyone and many classes will be full (closed). Many advisors hold walk-in advising during the first couple of weeks of the term to help as many students as possible: Advising

Check-in with Financial Aid 

• The best way to avoid losing part or all of your aid is to complete your classes. Meeting the minimum requirements to receive financial aid is referred to as Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

How to drop a class

To drop a class, start at the Registration Portal and log in to "Register for Classes"

• If you have a hold and need help dropping a class, send an email request to [email protected] with the appropriate course information. 
• You may drop a fifteen-week course through the end of the second week of class.
• Classes that are dropped do not appear on the transcript.

Use the Action menu in the Summary panel to select Drop. Click Submit to save changes. The class will be deleted from your registration history and will not appear in the Summary panel.

Starting with the first day of classes for the semester, you will have to select "Drop with 100% tuition cancellation," and the class will remain in your Summary panel as "Dropped." If you change your mind, you can select "Register" and then "Submit" to re-register for the class.

After the deadline to drop:

Beginning the third week of class, you are no longer allowed to drop classes. You must withdraw instead.

• It is your responsibility to request the withdrawal. Failure to do so will result in a failing grade.

• The withdrawal period for full-term classes ends at the end of the tenth week of the term. To view deadlines for a specific course, check the Class Detail panel of the class in the Class Schedule.
