TooPoorForThis T just received my new Orient Bambino, and i'm in love - there's just one problem, which is that the strap it comes on is hideously, obscenely, garishly shiny. it almost looks fake, it's so shiny. is there some sort of household chemical/equipment i can use that will bring it back down to a natural luster without completely killing the shine and matting it? #1 · May 21, 2014 just received my new Orient Bambino, and i'm in love - there's just one problem, which is that the strap it comes on is hideously, obscenely, garishly shiny. it almost looks fake, it's so shiny. is there some sort of household chemical/equipment i can use that will bring it back down to a natural luster without completely killing the shine and matting it? Leave it as is for matching with patent leather shoes and belt in future. 3) Zillions of replacement straps are available that will suit your (shoes) and needs. Just pop the old strap off and put a new one one #4 · May 21, 2014 Dip it in my wife's tomato-beet soup........ #5 · May 21, 2014 That sounds yummy! #6 · May 22, 2014 Dab some Acetone on a piece of cloth and rub lightly over the Leather surface.. (careful not to touch the Edge ,especially if it's Coated) this will remove the shine. however, if it came out too dull afterward, you can polish up the leather with a Dry wool Fabric. and if that didn't do it, then add some Wax and polish again. so for that reason, you should apply the acetone gently and very little bit at a time to avoid set 2. Cheers #7 · May 22, 2014 Along those same lines I have used regular old nail polish remover to dull down a hide at he behest of my strapmaker. Acetone or other solvents might work fine on one model strap, but give disastrous results on another. If trying a solvent, test a small spot on the short side near the buckle so it will be hidden when worn if it goes bad. #9 · May 23, 2014 Just put some good leather conditioner on it, then wipe off--presto, the gloss is gone!
