This page shows you how to evolve Pichu into Pikachu and Pikachu into Raichu in Pokemon Sun and Moon. These two Pokemon are part of the harder to find Pokemon in Sun and Moon, so follow our tips to better your chances of adding it to your Pokedex!

For a quick and easy guide on how to evolve all the new Pokemon in this generation, check our How to Evolve Your Pokemon!

You can capture a Pichu by heading to Route 1 and Hau'oli City. For both of these locations, Pichu has a 5% encounter rate and 190 catch rate. It shouldn't be hard to catch it once you're in battle, but it may take a bit before you encounter it.

Unlike other Pokemon, Pichu will only evolve once its Happiness is maxed out. Once you've accomplished this by winning battles and giving it vitamins and berries, it will evolve into Pikachu when it levels up. Giving Pichu a Soothe Bell will also help grow its Happiness. Just make sure to keep it in your party and battle! And make sure to avoid fainting during battles! Once Happiness has been improved, Pichu will evolve the next time it levels up.

Note: Affection obtained from Pokemon Refresh is not the same as the hidden stat Happiness.

Now you've got that Pikachu that you've always wanted, but what about evolving it to its final form, Raichu? In order to get that done, you'll need to use a Thunder Stone on Pikachu to get it to immediately evolve into Raichu.

You can find a Thunder Stone on Route 8 when you enter the small RV park. Run behind the RV to find the Thunder Stone you need!

In Alola, Pikachu will always, and only, evolve into the Alola Form Raichu. Though Alolan Raichu will automatically learn some Psychic-type moves when it evolves, it won't learn any other moves after that. Make sure your Pikachu has learned an adequate amount of moves before evolving it. Pikachu stops learning moves at Level 58.
