How To Evolve Trade Pokemon Without Trading In Arceus

Pokemon Legends: Arceus (PLA) is a brand new way to play Pokemon, and with this unique look on the franchise you will find that certain things have been streamlined. One of the old carryovers from previous Pokemon have been certain pocket monsters that require you to trade them to evolve. Well, while this can still be done in the game, you have an additional option now that is much easier and doesn’t require a second player! We’ll tell you all about the Trading Link item in this guide!

Evolving Trade Pokemon

There’s a pretty well-known list of Pokemon that can only evolved when they are traded to another player. This isn’t the most difficult thing in the world, but you might not have a friend who plays the game or even play online! If this is you, then you can celebrate because in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you can evolve these Pokemon without trading!

The item in question is known as the Linking Cord. This item can be obtained in the game by turning in Merit Points, and can then be used on a Pokemon that will only evolve by trade. Once you use the item on that Pokemon, it will then evolve into the next phase of its evolution!

The Pokemon that can evolve by trading or Linking Cord are:

  • Graveler -> Golem
  • Kadabra -> Alakazam
  • Haunter -> Gengar
  • Machoke -> Machamp

Keep in mind that you still can evolve these Pokemon by trading them if you don’t want to spend Merit Points! This is more of an option for players without internet.

There are also Pokemon that must be holding an item and then be trading. This has also been streamlined, you just need the item now, and can use it on the Pokemon and it will evolve.

The Pokemon that can evolve by trading and must be holding an item are:

  • Magmar (Magmarizer) -> Magmortar
  • Dusclops (Reaper’s Cloth) -> Dusknoir
  • Electabuzz (Electrizer) -> Electivire

How to get the Linking Cord

The Linking Cord item can be obtained in Pokemon Legends: Arceus by spending 1,000 Merit Points at the Merit Shop in Jubilee Village. You can get Merit Points for returning lost satchels to NPCs in the game. This will reward you between 50 – 100 Merit Points per satchel you turn in.

The Merit Vendor Shop is run by an NPC named Simona. She is very close to the Galaxy Hall, and you will recognize the vendor when you see the yellow flag with Togepi on it.

Additionally, if you don’t want to spend Merit Points on the Linking Cord, you can complete a quest from an NPC to get one. Here’s a look at a video that will walk you through completing it:
