How To Find (& Kill) The Broodmother In Grounded - Screen Rant

As the player character has shrunken down to the size of an ant and attempts to survive the perils of the backyard in Grounded, they will come across hostile insects and challenging spiders, the alpha predator of the backyard. The spiders in Grounded are a point of contention for many players, especially those with arachnophobia. Because of fan concerns about being able to play and enjoy the game, Obsidian Entertainment added an accessibility option for players with an extreme fear of spiders that makes the creatures less terrifying. Without this feature turned on, however, the spiders in the game are massive and difficult to fight.

For an added challenge, the August update to Grounded added a new boss encounter for players in the form of an even more massive and aggressive arachnid: the Hedge Broodmother. This is a hostile spider with the largest health pool in the game, and while she currently doesn't look any different from a regular Wolf Spider, she appears on the Flingman Flying Disc in the Hedge biome with several Spiderlings and an Orb Weaver. Between her extra helpers and her health pool, players will need to strategize and may even need to grab a few friends to defeat her. There are some helpful rewards for killing the Broodmother, including spider venom, spider chunks, and spider silk. Here's how to find and kill the Broodmother in Grounded.

Find the Broodmother in Grounded

Players will come across the Broodmother in the Hedge biome in the southeast region of the map. To get there, they will want to fast travel to the Hedge Ascent site and climb the branches of the hedges until they find the Flingman Flying Disc. The Broodmother and her Spiderlings, along with the Orb Weaver, will all be found on top of the disc. The Broodmother will not run away if engaged by the player.

The Broodmother is a fast runner and will close the distance between herself and the player quickly. She has the ability to jump-attack, which deals a lot of damage to the player character. She can also use a biting venom attack at close range, and stun the player by shooting a web at them during the fight.

Kill the Broodmother in Grounded

Because players will likely be attacked by both the Broodmother and the Orb Weaver, plus the Spiderlings, it is not recommended for them to run in alone armed only with a club. Instead, they should stay high above the Flingman's Flying Disc on an overhead branch and use their bow and arrows to take out one of the two spiders first. While it doesn't matter too much which spider the player chooses to kill with these ranged attacks, many have suggested using the bow and arrows against the Broodmother and defeating the Orb Weaver afterward with a club.

If players find themselves close to the Broodmother, they should use the blocking function, especially the perfect block, to limit the amount of damage done by her jump attacks or bites. They can use gas or toxic attacks to chip away at her high health levels as well.

This boss encounter is mostly optional. Players might be able to evade the Broodmother for a while by climbing on some of the higher and more difficult to reach branches of the hedge. Players should note that, though the Broodmother doesn't currently look different from other Wolf Spiders, killing her does not count toward the mission they may receive to kill three Wolf Spiders.

After defeating the Broodmother, Orb Weaver, and Spiderlings, players will be able to find another SCAB skin in the area as well.
