Where can I find shark teeth in St. Augustine & Ponte Vedra Beach?

Take a walk on St. Augustine or Ponte Vedra Beach and you’ll find history dating back to the ice age. Mickler’s Landing is a popular access point for visitors and a secret place to find fossilized and modern day shark teeth. You may also find some shark tooth treasures along Vilano Beach.

How do I find shark teeth?

You’ll need a keen eye as you search the waterline. The shape may be easy to identify, but you’ll also need to look for a glossy patina. Colors range from grey, black, brown and some have a red tone. You can typically find modern day shark teeth and the occasional fossilized tooth. If you want to speed up the process, try scooping up a big handful of sand at the water's edge and carefully search for teeth in your sand pile. You'll probably find more than a few treasures!

When is the best time to find shark teeth?

You can find shark teeth any time of year, but the ideal time to go shark teeth searching is after a storm. The intensity of the crashing waves tends to uncover lots of shark teeth from underneath layers of sand. But, if there wasn't a recent storm, don't fret! There are plenty of shark teeth to be found on the beaches of St. Augustine & Ponte Vedra at all times. Happy hunting!
