Twitter is a hugely popular social media platform with in the region of 200 million active daily users, but what happens if a tweet is deleted? Is it lost forever? Not necessarily. Read on to discover how you can find deleted posts by your account or others.

You may have deleted a post by accident or simply want to remember something you'd seen before but which has been taken down. It can be frustrating, but few people know there are ways to recover these tweets.

How to find deleted tweets

There are three main ways to find someone's deleted tweets:

1. Request your own Twitter archive

If you're after your own deleted tweets, the safest method is probably to access your Twitter archives.

This can be found under settings > account > arhives on Twitter itself. You'll be able to download, search and navigate your deleted publications.

2. Use the Wayback Machine website

If you know the date of the tweets you want to find, this site could be a useful resource. It searches archived webpages and allows you to see pages on given dates.

By entering the web address of the profile you want to view, you'll then be able to select specific dates to check.

3. Third-party apps and websites

There are a number of third-party tools which are designed to offer you this function and may allow you to recover and view deleted tweets. One of the most popular is Twipu.com, which is free to use.

This website will let you search for deleted posts by any user by entering their Twitter handle.

The Snap Bird App is another method some people use to search through old tweets and content, but this doesn't let you find deleted posts.

There have been privacy and security concerns with sites like these, though, so do use exercise caution as they have not been officially endorsed by Twitter.
