How to Fix A Loose Bicycle Chain

Introduction

In this guide I will teach you how to repair a loose bike chain. Before we begin the guide you will need a socket wrench, gloves, and a bike stand (optional). A bike chain is a chain that connects the pedals to the rear wheel. When you rotate the pedals as you do when riding your bike, the energy created by the rider transfers to the rear wheel, thus allowing you to move forward.

   • Determine if your chain is loose. As shown in the pictures, the bike chain is hanging low; this is an excellent indication that your bike chain is loose.

   • Your bike might have oil all over its chain and gear, so it's best to wear gloves.
