Asked on Jan 10, 2018 How to fix concrete so when it rains it doesn't puddle? Becky Howell by Becky Howell (IC: ) Sign Up to Answer Answer this question +7 Answered We have a walkway that is bordered by our house on one side, and a concrete wall on another. The walkway is made of concrete and over time it has settled and has become uneven. When it rains, puddles form in those areas even though we have a bit of a slope in the walkway that goes to a drain. What is the best way to fix the uneven areas? 7 answers

The simplest, least time-consuming repair would be to spread a concrete patching compound over the area. You want a bagged mix that can be troweled to a feather edge. Following the instructions on the package, clean the walkway, stir the recommended liquid into the compound, and pour it in place. Then run a straightedge over it to level it with the surrounding surface.

Thank you for your help! I did not know there was such a thing as a concrete patching compound! Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow.

Won't water still settle under them and erode the squares? I like the idea and perhaps the look!

Use a latex modified self leveling concrete resurfacing compound.

Yes, a concrete leveling compound. Definitely the dirt residue in the puddled areas must be power washed out of there.

And you might even etch it clean with muriatic acid solution or some other etching cleaner. Use appropriate PPE when working with all chemicals.

It won’t last very long if the surface is not super clean.

I would also like to know,we have the same puddling patio issue! Hoping to figure a way to "slope" it slightly so that it runs OFF the patio (rather than towards the foundation/cellar).
