How To Fold A Letter Into A Pull Tab Note - I Try DIY

When I visited Alaska this summer, I unearthed boxes upon boxes of high school stuff. A lot of laughs came with the ancient photos and letters from friends who I saw nearly everyday. It was pretty cool that we didn’t just hand these letters to each other willy nilly, we found creative ways to fold them up. Here’s one of those ways. Learn how to fold a letter into a pull tab note!

Right now, I’m loving this Neon and Kraft Paper Pad from Michaels, so I’ll be using it for this tutorial. Start out with a rectangular sheet of paper. I found that US Letter size works best. Anything wider or narrower might not work out.

Fold the sheet of paper in half lengthwise to start. You’ll use that middle fold as a guide.

Starting with one corner, fold it doggy ear style towards the middle fold.

Repeat on all four corners. Don’t worry if the folds aren’t perfectly aligned. Close enough is good enough.

Next, fold the side towards the middle fold. Repeat with the other side.

Next, fold in the pointed ends inward.

Fold it in to match up with the triangle space.

You will find that what you’ve folded so far naturally folds into three. Flip the letter over, and fold back about a third of the letter, just until the point of the triangle meets the edge.

Do the same with the other side. This other triangle will be the pull tab.

Tuck in one corner of this fold into one of the pockets.

Tuck in the other corner into the other pocket. Secure all the folds in place to make sure the tab doesn’t unravel on its own.

When you’re done, slowly pull on the tab to test and make sure that everything works out! Try this with the next letter you write your friends. Happy crafting!
