How To Get a SiloBy Laura-May RandellStacey HenleyMiranda Sanchez+2.1k moreUpdated: Oct 16, 2021 4:46am UTC

This page is part of IGN's Stardew Valley Wiki guide and details everything you need to know about Silos, including how to get a Silo, what you'll need to get one, what it does, and how to fill the Silo with hay.

How Much Does a Silo Cost

The Silo is a type of farm building you'll get by asking Robin to build one on your farm. Building it will take her two days, and you'll need 100g as well as 100 Stones, 10 Clay, and 5 Copper Bars.

To get a Silo, all you have to do is go over to the Carpenter's Shop any day -except Tuesdays - from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, bring gold and all the materials needed and ask Robin to build it for you.

What Does a Silo Do

By having a Silo, you'll be able to transform the grass you cut on your farm into hay. Moreover, this farm building has the capacity of storing 240 units of hay which you can later use to feed your Barn and Coop animals. This feature will be convenient during the winter or rainy days when your animals won't be able to go outside their Barns or Coops and feed themselves.

The hay stored inside Silos can be accessed via the hay hoppers that you see inside the Barns and Coops on your farm.

You can check how much hay a Silo has inside by interacting with it. If you own more than one, it'll show you the combined amount of hay rather than just the amount in the Silo you're clicking on.

How To Add Hay To a Silo

There are three ways of adding hay into your Silo, those are:

  • Purchasing hay directly from Marnie's Ranch or the Desert Trader and then adding it manually into the Silo.
  • By cutting the grass on your farm, you'll get a 50% chance of hay being automatically added to your Silo. This will only work if you're cutting the grass using the Scythe. If you use a Golden Scythe, your chances of obtaining hay increase to 75%.
  • Planting Wheat Seeds during summer and fall, harvesting the Wheat it'll grow from those, and then adding it manually to the Silo.
  • Cutting the weeds on your farm using any melee weapon enchanted with Haymaker.
