With hundreds of Pokemon available in Pokemon GO, it’s always hard to keep track of the different types, how to counter them, and how to get them. 

One of the more unusual Pokemon is Mawile, which is a Steel and Fairy-type Pokemon that can often be found in raids or sometimes hatched from eggs. Mawile has some very clear strengths in the game and can be used effectively in the GO Battle League as it isn’t one of the heavy hitters when it comes to CP. Instead, Mawile is a middle-range Pokemon that can help win some PvP battles. 

While Mawile can be a good Pokemon for PvP, it’s also fairly easy to counter. Mawile has two clear weaknesses that will make it melt like butter no matter how strong it is. So when looking for a Mawile in raids, it will be an easy one to solo for most players. 

How to counter Mawile in Pokemon GO

As a Steel-type Pokemon, one of the most effective and easy ways to counter Mawile will be with fire moves. Using fire on Mawile will deal 160% damage, which should be more than plenty to take down the Deceiver Pokemon. Some of the best fire moves to take down Mawile in Pokemon GO will be Fire Fang, Incinerate, or Fire Spin for the quick moves. For charged attacks, both Overheat and Blast Burn will be lethal against Mawile. 

If fire isn’t an option, then Ground-type moves are just as effective. Just like fire, ground will deal 160% damage to Mawile and have it killed in an instant. The best move of them all will be Earthquake, which is known to be a very heavy DPS move in Pokemon GO against the right Pokemon.  

Typhlosion, Charizard, and Arcanine can counter Mawile

With the right moves to counter Mawile in mind, it’s also important to pick some of the right Pokemon. Some of the Pokemon that most players will have in their Pokedex will be Typhlosion, Charizard, and Arcanine. All three Fire types are great against taking down Mawile and will be able to solo it in raids. 

For the more rare but stronger Pokemon, Reshiram, Chandelure, and Darmanitan are all some of the absolute best against Mawile. Reshiram will be the strongest of them all, as it’s currently considered a top-tier Pokemon in general. With Fire Fang and Overheat, it’s almost impossible for a Reshiram to lose to a Mawile. 

For Ground types, Landorus in its Therian form will be very effective against Mawile with Mud Shot and Earthquake as its moveset. Groudon will also be a strong option together with Excadrill. 

Best moveset for Mawile in Pokemon GO

When playing as Mawile, on the other hand, it’s important to have the right moveset for it to be effective. Mawile is strong against Fighting and Bug Pokemon especially and will do great with Ice Fang or Fire Fang for the quick move. For the charge move, Mawile should aim to get Play Rough as a strong Fairy-type move.
