How to Get Called Up in Road to the ShowBy Ricky FrechMiranda SanchezJim McQ+3 moreUpdated: Apr 28, 2021 3:25pm UTC

If you’re playing Road to the Show in MLB The Show 21 your first goal is to make it to the big leagues. Every prospective ballplayer is grinding away in the minor leagues with the hopes of one day being called up to the majors.

It’s going to take some time to get there no matter how skilled you are at the game; however, there are a few steps you can take to get called up faster. Use our tips to accelerate your trip up the ranks to MLB.

Pick a Team That Needs Your Position

This is the biggest tip we can give. If you want to play third base and sign up to play with San Diego Padres, you’re going to have a long road to the majors. The team already has a superstar at the position in Manny Machado and he’s only 28 years old. While you may be able to supplant him with a lot of work, chances are you’ll need to switch positions or seek a trade.

In fact, if you find yourself in the same position as a star player and are doing well in AA or AAA ball, your agent will come to you asking if you want to switch things up. That can either be in the form of a new position or by being traded to someone with a need in your position. If you want to stick with the team that drafts you, make sure you pick one that actually needs you.

Pay Attention to What Your Team is Doing

These first two tips certainly intermingle, but you need to keep them both in mind. If you just play your games without paying attention to your organization, you’re going to miss out on important info.

For example, if you’ve followed our advice in the first tip and chosen a team with a need at your position, you probably think you’re in a great place. Hopefully, that’s the case, but sometimes teams can’t wait for you to develop before they fill that need.

Instead, they make a trade and put you in the awkward position of being surpassed before you can get called up. Just like in real, you need to watch everything that’s going on in the clubhouse.

Play All Your Games

Finally, don’t be tempted to sim games to move through the minor leagues more quickly. It might sound like a good idea, but every game you sim is essentially a waste. You won’t get any stat increases from simulated games, so playing everything is in your best interest. It might sound counterintuitive, but playing every game will actually speed things up in the long run.
