What are Merit Points
Merit Points (MP) can be considered as a special type of in-game currency in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. These points can be used to buy items from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village. MP can only be obtained by finding Lost Satchels scattered across Hisui (described in the following section). Aside from the Poke Balls, the items sold at the Trading Post are evolutionary items used to evolve certain Pokemon.
It’s worth noting that these items are not exclusively found at the Trading Post. All of these items can be found randomly scattered on the ground within Space-time Distortions. Some of these can also be obtained as rewards for completing requests, found in Tumblestones, or carried by Pokemon. See the List of Items for more information on how to get items.
How to Earn Merit Points - Lost Satchels
In short, there's only one way to earn Merit Poins tIn Pokemon Legends: Arceus - find and return Lost Satchels. In Legends: Arceus, your character can get knocked out while exploring. This causes you to lose some items and revives you at a nearby camp. The items that were lost become Lost Satchels. While you're exploring the wilds you'll find a Lost Satchel icon on your map. This marks a small area where a Lost Satchel can be found. Lost Satchels are generated by other players who have fallen in their games if you're online, but if your console is not connected to the internet, the game still spawns randomized Lost Satchels of non-playable characters.
Lost Satchels look like small brown pouches on the ground. To pick it up, you simply need to walk up to it and press A. Every time you find a Lost Satchel you’ll be rewarded with Merit Points. Anywhere for 50 MP and up. The more items the Lost Satchel contains, the higher the number of MP you’ll receive.
Though finding Lost Satchels earns you Merit Points, you actually have to claim the Merit Points to receive them. You do this by going to the Communications tab and selecting Lost and Found. All the Lost Satchels you found will have a small yellow notification icon next to them. Click them to receive your thank-you gift and claim your MP.
Being online allows your game to connect with other players all over the world who are also playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus. These players do not even have to be on your friends list. Instead, they’ll be randomly selected by the game as you’re playing. While online, the Lost Satchels you discover are found where other players were knocked out and lost their items while playing their game. It’s often interesting to see Lost Satchels being found near Alpha Pokemon or at the base of cliff sides where they likely fell off a ledge.
How to Connect Online - How to Get Your Items Back
Though you can earn Merit Points even if you’re not online, it seems the same isn’t true for obtaining your Lost Items. Obtaining YOUR Lost Items requires you to connect online, and then another player finding your Lost Satchel in their game.
Once a player finds your Lost Satchel, you can go to the Lost and Found section of the menu, and claim your items. This returns all the lost items and places them in your storage. You can also select any of your Lost Satchels on the list to see what they contained.
You can make sure your console is connected to the internet via the menu. Press Up the on D-pad to access your items screen. Press ZR/ZL to switch to the Communications tab (the one that looks like a wifi signal). From this menu, you can choose to have your game connect online. Select the automatically connect option so that you don’t have to manually establish the connection every time you boot up the game.
A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to connect to the internet in this way.Up Next: General Gameplay How-to Guides
