How To Get Rid of Fox Yourself

Foxes are nuisances for reasons that are not their faults because humans have encroached upon wooded areas and their natural habitat. The largest reason that foxes are seen as pests is that they will scavenge any food that they possibly can. They often rip into unsecured trash cans, ravage your garden and landscape and will also gobble up any of your pets’ food that they can which costs you money and confuses your pests. Foxes can also make their homes in your shed or under your house which is not only inconvenient, it is dangerous. Foxes will dig under your house to make a secure den to birth their young which can rip into your electrical wiring and plumbing lines. If you are having some of these problems, try some of these do it yourself tips to get rid of the foxes:

• 1) Eliminate whatever is attracting foxes to your property, such as garbage, and easily accessible chicken coop, etc.
• 2) Use a very large live cage trap. This is not easy. Experienced trappers only.
• 3) Use a paw-hold trap to catch the fox, then shoot it. This is what the experienced fur trappers do. It is not easy, not humane, etc.

There are several repellents available to you that are both invisible and physical. However, there are physical repellents that you can use that are much more effective. For example, you can keep a large dog in your yard as foxes do not like larger animals and loud noises. Another thing that you can try are motion activated sprinklers that will actually spray the foxes with water any time they come near your garbage cans, garden, etc. One of the most effective ways, albeit one of the most expensive ways, to keep foxes out of your yard is to build a fence. Building a fence around your entire property may not be an option, but you can build one just around your garden or around your garbage bins to make it more effective. Any sturdy fence will do, but you have to make sure that it is buried at least a foot to two feet underground as foxes are very good diggers and have it extend several feet above ground so they do not jump or climb over it. The next thing that you can try is to trap the fox. This may be difficult to do and even illegal in some states. However, foxes are very cautious creature and may not fall for the trap and that is why you must clean the trap thoroughly with simple dish soap and wearing latex gloves to erase your scent from it. A great way to get the foxes to come into your trap is to dig a small hole, put some meat into it and place the cage over it. Check the cage everyday and relocate the animal at least 10 miles away from your home to discourage is from coming back. There may also be laws governing how you can relocate or dispose of the fox, so make sure to check out your state’s specific laws. How To Get Rid Of A Fox In My Garden If the fox has made a home in your garden or frequents it a lot, it can be dangerous for small pets that you may keep at home. Even if you think it is not a big deal you should get rid of the fox because all it needs is a small opportunity to take your cat or even a small dog. There is also a chance that they may cause damage to your garden. To get a fox away from your garden is easier than getting it out of other locations. Many times a bigger dog will do the trick, but not everyone wants to own a dog. If you do not want a dog then you could try using motion sensors that trigger a light or a sprinkler system. For obvious reasons the sprinkler will be more effective, plus it also has the advantage that it will work day or night. Once out if the problem persists you should get your garden fenced. How To Get Rid Of A Fox Under My Deck Or Shed As it is the case with most wildlife, it is a lot harder to get them out of somewhere when they are under a bigger structure. That is the case with a shed and under a deck. Both of those locations provide great shelter for a fox and an inconvenient headache for you. If you are going to get a fox that has made a home in either of those locations you will need to be a bit more creative. The easiest way to succeed is to use traps, but you have to make sure that the traps are well covered, because a smart animal such as a fox will not go in if it sees a trap. Often you’ll need to camouflage the trap with branches, leaves and other natural artifacts. There are other people who will use predator urine which can be purchased in hunting stores, but this can have little effect. That does not mean that they are useless, but sometimes they will not work as an only solution. If you plan to use predator urine you should still use another method such as traps and then be sure to secure the area so they can’t reenter. How To Get Rid Of A Fox In My Yard A garden and a yard are very similar when trying to get rid of a fox. The most important thing is to get rid of the incentives that the fox has to be there in the first place. They will be attracted to food and shelter and that usually means garbage and places where it can hide. A yard also makes it easier to place a trap because there is a lot less vegetation than in the garden, so you can choose where you want the trap to go. As always make sure that the trap is well covered with other vegetation to make it look almost den like. Foxes will be attracted to bait like wet dog food and meat.
