1. Causes Of Pimples On Nose
A. Blocked Pores
Most pimples on the nose are a result of excess oil and bacteria blocking a pore, which leads to the form of blackheads, whiteheads and pimples on and around the nose.
B. Ingrown Hair
The hair on the nose may sometimes grow back into the skin due to shaving, waxing or tweezing.
C. Nasal Vestibulitis
Nasal vestibulitis refers to bacterial infection in the nasal vestibule (front part of the nasal cavity). It can occur when you pick your nose, blow it excessively or have a nose piercing.
The bacteria Staphylococcus (staph) [1] leads to the formation of white or red bumps inside the nose.
D. Nasal Furuncles
Nasal furuncles are boils or deeper infections inside the nose. [2]
This condition can sometimes lead to cellulitis, a skin infection that can spread to your bloodstream.
Consult a doctor if the pimple inside the nose is growing in size or getting painful.

3. OTT Treatments For Nose Pimples
A. Topical Creams
Salicylic acid [3] and benzoyl peroxide [4] in acne control face creams help in clearing the clogged pores and reducing the appearance of nose pimples.
B. Pain Relievers
When you experience pain due to a pimple on the nose, painkillers like acetaminophen, ibuprofen and naproxen sodium helps. Consult your doctor for prescription strength treatments.
C. Antiseptics
Topical antiseptics can relieve pain. Tea tree oil [5] is a natural antiseptic treatment.
Word Of Caution:
Do not use undiluted essential oils on the delicate nasal lining. Dilute it with coconut oil and then apply.
4. Home Remedies For Pimples On The Nose
People use a lot of home remedies for pimples on the nose. However, there is no scientific evidence that these ingredients are sure to reduce the appearance of pimples on the nose. Nevertheless, you can give them a try:
A. Lemon Juice
Lemon is acidic and can help you clean and dry a pimple. Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice in a cotton pad and place it on your nose. Rinse off after 15 minutes.
Word of Caution: Lemon juice tends to make your skin photosensitive, so avoid stepping out in the day after this procedure. Youcan rub ice on your skin and apply sunscreen if you must go out.
B. Ice
Ice reduces the inflammation and swelling. Rub ice gently on the nose area for 20 minutes.
C. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has antimicrobial properties. Apply the oil on the pimple and rinse off after 10 min.
D. Toothpaste
Toothpaste (the white variety and not the gel-based toothpaste) dries out the pimple with its antimicrobial properties. Apply a small amount of toothpaste on the pimple and leave it overnight. Wash off the next morning.
E. Listerine Mouthwash
Listerine is an astringent (causes the contraction of skin cells) and reduces the size of the pimple. It also has antimicrobial properties. Dip a cotton pad in Listerine mouthwash and place it on the nose. Wash off after 10 min.
5. How To Prevent Pimples On The Nose?
More often than not, people forget to follow basic skincare tips. It is always essential for you to follow a basic skincare routine to keep your skin clean and breathing:
- Wash your face at least twice a day to remove dirt, oil and pollutants from your skin. Don’t overwash. Overwashing can deprive your skin of necessary oils. This can contribute to sebum production.
- Drink lots of water to hydrate your skin and prevent it from overproducing sebum. Too much sebum may lead to clogged pores.
- Avoid oil-based makeup products. They may clog your pores. Water-based makeup products are recommended for acne-prone skin.
- Remove your makeup before you sleep. Don’t buy oil-based makeup removers.
- Cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin on a regular basis. Follow a skincare regimen that helps your skin maintain its pH level and prevents clogging.
- Avoid exfoliating your skin every day. Exfoliating too much can stimulate sebum production in the skin. Use gentle scrubs whenever you do.
- Follow a healthy diet. Research shows that low carbohydrate diets can help clear up acne vulgaris.
- Wear sunscreen before you step-out. Direct exposure can dehydrate your skin and body, leading to an overproduction of sebum. Choose an anti-acne sunscreen to avoid clogged pores.
- Don’t pop your pimples. Popping your pimples can break skin barriers and infect other pores. This may result in acne breakouts.
Follow our advice so you no longer have to worry about a nose pimple spoiling your photograph the next time.
