How to get sponges in Minecraft?

A sponge is used to dry wet places. The sponge absorbs the water, dries the wet place and will become a wet sponge. Sponges can be reused. However, a wet sponge can no longer be used to dry places, it has to be dried before it can be used again. A wet sponge can be dried by placing a wet sponge in the top box of a furnace, lighting the fire and waiting for it to dry. Once the sponge is dry, you should add it back to your inventory so you can use it again.

There are two ways to get sponges in Minecraft, the first being to kill a certain mob and the second being to find them. Both these methods will work in the Bedrock edition as well as in the Java edition of Minecraft. Players can try this in the creative mode or the survival mode of the game. Sponges are not made in a crafting table.

Method 1: Find sponges in specified locations

Step 1: Locate an ocean monument in the deep ocean or buy a monument map from a cartographer to lead you to one.

Step 2: Locate the sponge room(s) inside the monument.

Step 3: TMine the sponges with a hoe.

Method 2: Get sponges by killing an elder guardian

Step 1: Locate an ocean monument in the deep ocean or buy a monument map from a cartographer to lead you to one.

Step 2: Find elder guardians inside the monument and kill them.

Step 3: Collect the sponges that they drop.

Uses of Sponges

Sponges can be used to dry up areas of water and can be reused. Once a sponge is used to get rid of water, it becomes a wet sponge. To dry the sponge so you can use it again, you can place it in the nether or smelt it in a furnace. If you place a bucket in the fuel slot while the furnace is smelting a wet sponge, the bucket will fill with water.
