Throw the Ultra Ball at a wild Pokemon before it notices you

Throwing a Pokeball

Unlike the previous Pokemon games, you will have to aim the Ultra Ball towards a wild Pokemon to catch it, similar to Pokemon GO. In order to catch unsuspecting Pokemon without going into battle, you'll need to sneak up on them or use bait such as food! If you are unsuccessful, you may have to battle with the Pokemon or temporarily flee until it forgets about you.

Catching a Pokemon in Battle

Pokemon Legends Arceus - Throw a Poke Ball with a Pokemon Inside to Start a Battle

To initiate a battle with a wild Pokemon, throw a Poke Ball containing your partner Pokemon towards it. Aim at an unsuspecting Pokemon's backside to potentially gain the advantage and catch them off guard!

Like in past Pokemon games, Pokemon will become easier to catch after being weakened. Lower their HP and inflict Status conditions like Drowsiness or Paralysis, then switch to your items with X, and press ZR to throw the Ultra Ball to try and catch it!
