Welcome to IGN's Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 Update guide! This section tells you everything you need to know about How to Get Wheat, including where to buy it, how to unlock Leif, Kapp'n island tours, and how to turn Wheat into Flour and Whole-wheat Flour in ACNH.

What is Wheat?

Wheat is a growable plant in Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 2.0 Update. Check out our How to Download the 2.0 Update guide for help downloading and installing it.

Wheat can be refined into Flour and Whole-wheat Flour at a stove which is used in cooking. You need to plant Wheat Starts in order to grow it in ACNH, which can be found or purchased.

How to Get Wheat Starts

Wheat Starts are sold by Leif. You can find him either on your island when he comes to visit and sets up shop outside your Resident Services Building, or at Harv's Island Plaza.

To unlock him at the Plaza, speak to the Lloid who mentions "a botany expert with the greenest of thumbs" and pay 100,000 Bells. Wait a day and he'll have set up shop, selling various starts, bushes, and flowers. Leif changes his stock weekly so if he doesn't have Wheat in stock, you'll have to return to the Plaza in a few days and check again. He sells one Wheat Start for 280 Bells or a set of five for 1,400.

Alternatively, you can also find Wheat on Kapp'n island tours. If you pay Kapp'n—who is sat on a boat at your Dock—1,000 Nook Miles, he will take you to a randomly generated island filled with different materials, one of which can be Wheat.

You can only go to a mystery island once per day, though, so if you land on one that doesn't have Wheat growing on it, you will have to try again the next day.

How to Grow Wheat

To grow Wheat, take your Wheat Starts and find a section of land on your island where you'd like to plant them. Many players create farming sections, but you can put them in any grassy area.

Like flowers and bushes, it is easier to map out your planting placement by digging a hole first but you don't need to do this. It just stops it from being put in the wrong place to save you from having to move it.

Simply open your inventory and click on your Wheat Starts, then "Plant 1" to plant one. You need five Wheat to make five bags of Flour so if you're after the ingredient for cooking, make sure you plant at least five starts.

It is also wise to water the starts every day until they've grown, which takes four days. You don't have to water them but you'll get a bigger harvest on the fourth day if you do. Once you have harvested your Wheat, your planted starts will yield more Wheat again after two days.

How to Get Flour and Whole-wheat Flour

Once you've got your Wheat, you need to obtain the Flour recipe. To do this, head to the Nook Stop in your Resident Services Building and purchase the "Be A Chef! DIY Recipes+" upgrade for 2,000 Nook Miles. You'll unlock the recipe, amongst a few others, as well as the DIY for the Stonework Kitchen, which you'll need to craft if you don't already have a Kitchen in your home.

To get the Whole-wheat Flour recipe, go to Nook's Cranny and buy the "Basic Cooking Recipes" DIY set from the cupboard for 4,980 Bells.

Now that you're all prepared, place the Kitchen in your house if you haven't already and click on it. Then you'll see Flour and Whole-wheat Flour, both of which cost five Wheat to craft. You'll get 10 bags every time you craft one.
