Like me, I see you’ve decided to give the gift of a weighted blanket. You just can’t beat the cozy, soothing comfort! Now that it’s here, you’re wondering: how am I supposed to wrap this thing? Don’t worry. I’m going to explain how to gift wrap a weighted blanket in only 6 steps (or less, depending on the method).

There are 3 ways to go about gift wrapping a weighted blanket:

• In a box
• Using a bag
• Just the blanket itself

So let’s talk about the different ways to tackle this cozy conundrum to figure out what works best for you.

For reference, I’m using a 10 pound, twin-size weighted blanket with a microfiber exterior and glass bead weights for this guide. If your blanket is larger or smaller, or made of different materials, the same steps will still apply but the completed package will look slightly different.

How to Gift Wrap a Weighted Blanket in a Box in 6 Steps or Less!

1. Remove all shipping documents and receipts (except a gift receipt, if desired)

2. Add tissue paper on top of blanket in box (optional)

3. Seal box with tape

4. Place box in chosen wrapping paper

5. Fold, wrap, and tape like any gift

6. Add ribbon, bow, and gift tag or label (optional)

I prefer to wrap blankets using a box, since it offers support as well as providing a uniform appearance. The good news is that many times when you order the blanket, it comes in a box!

If it doesn’t, or if you prefer to remove it from the standard brown shipping boxes, there are many large size gift boxes suitable for a blanket. Just make sure to check the dimensions of your blanket versus the box before ordering.

Using a Gift Bag to Wrap a Weighted Blanket in 5 Easy Steps!

1. Fold or roll blanket (if needed)

2. Secure with plastic wrap or string

3. Place blanket in gift bag

4. Add tissue paper or other filling around sides and top

5. Attach gift tag (optional)

Sometimes your blanket will already be folded and secured, so you’ll be able to skip the first 1-2 steps and go straight to packing the gift bag! I like using string or ribbon aesthetically over the wrap to secure it, but if you need to wrangle or squish the blanket, plastic wrap is great.

The biggest challenge with using a bag vs a box is simply the heaviness. Often, bags aren’t designed to hold 10-20 pound gifts, which is kind of the point of a weighted blanket. Choose a gift bag with sewn in handles or or a fabric drawstring gift bag to handle the extra weight.

Gift Wrap a Weighted Blanket by Itself in Just 4 Steps!

1. Put other gifts inside the blanket (if desired)

2. Fold the blanket over the contents

3. Secure with ribbon

4. Use plastic wrap if needed to make it more manageable

If you want to give the blanket itself without any special wrapping, it requires different tactics.

Perhaps you’ve even made a weighted blanket yourself (because you’re obviously much better at sewing than I am)! I mean, who wouldn’t love an awesome homemade blanket?

The nice thing about using the blanket as the gift wrap itself is that you can put other items inside it for a cute care package. Toys, clothes, or treats may be tucked inside for a special surprise. My reversible octopus plushie was happy to suffocate, er, demonstrate.

Our arch nemesis the cling wrap makes a return, and is pretty handy if you need to secure the blanket and/or care package for travel. If you’re packing the blanket in a suitcase, that’ll keep the contents from jostling around.

This is also a great way to cut down on the weight and volume of additional gift packaging. However, I still recommend you watch the weight of your checked bag, as that’s some serious extra pounds from the blanket alone.

You can always free it from the plastic before handing over the weighted blanket to its adoring recipient!
