TikTok has seen a rapid rise to becoming one of the most popular social media apps. Although it’s only been around for a couple of years, the video platform has added many features to allow its creators to build connections with their followers.

One of the additions TikTok has made is its ‘Live’ feature, which allows users to livestream and chat with their viewers in real-time.

TikTokers can interact directly with viewers, but in order to do this, they need a certain amount of followers and to meet the age requirement.

How many followers do you need to go live on TikTok?

In order to go live on the social media app, users must be at least 18 years old. TikTok also has limited the accounts that can go live to only users with over 1,000 followers. Unfortunately, there currently is no way to do this without 1000 followers.

This means that if you are a TikTok user under that follower threshold, your access to the going live feature will be restricted until you reach the required follower count.

Users who are 18 and above can also earn gift points in the process, while those younger cannot.

How to go live on TikTok in 2024

Once you have access to going live on TikTok, the process is quite simple.

1. Tap the Create icon on the home screen (the plus icon).
2. Swipe left to Live at the bottom navigation.
3. Select an image and a title for the stream.
4. When ready, hit the Go Live button to begin the stream.
5. Finished streaming? Tap the X in the top-left corner.

Once you are live, viewers will be able to talk to you via live chat, making communication much more instant. It also gives you an opportunity to delve into longer content, like storytimes and vlogs.

You can also have your viewers send you in-app gifts, but you need to make sure to have enabled this before the stream starts.

Why can’t I go live on TikTok?

If you’re trying to go Live on TikTok but find that it’s not working, there are a few reasons that it could be.

The main reason for not being able to go live on TikTok is that you don’t meet all of its requirements. At the moment, only people over 18 years old with more than 1,000 followers are able to go live.

You can get around this, but only if you meet the age requirement. To do this, simply go onto the live stream and click on the “multi-guest LIVE” button to the right of the comment box. You’ll see an option to request to join. Click on this button and wait for the host to approve you.

You can also ask the live host to invite you by having them press the “multi-guest LIVE” button and then scrolling to the user’s profile and press the “invite” button.
