How To Increase The Render Resolution Of Games On Your Samsung ...

When it comes to benchmarking games on smartphones or tablets, the information regarding the game’s render resolution (different from the screen’s resolution), the FPS, temperature, CPU, GPU & RAM utilization, and even VRAM usage are oftentimes obscure. Even the API used to render the graphics in games is mostly unknown.

Samsung, on the other hand, provides us with all the information we need if we know where to look. I’m going to show you how to increase the render resolution of games on your Samsung smartphone or tablet while monitoring all other performance telemetries at the same time.

This “alternate game performance management” mode though, is to increase the performance – not the render resolution. Those are two mutually exclusive from each other.

1. Download Game Plugins

This, however, is not always available on all Samsung phones – as far as I can tell. If it is available for your phone, then download it from the Galaxy Store. If you want a shortcut to download that app, then click here.

If the app is not available for your phone, then don’t bother trying to bypass it by sideloading the APK because it just won’t work.

After you’ve installed Game Plugins, you’ll be presented with this main menu. What we’ll want to do next is…

2. Install Game Booster Plus

Yes, there are a lot of installations to be done. Just tap on the Game Booster Plus within the Game Plugins menu and you’ll head back into the Galaxy Store once more. Just download and install it.

3. Configure the Game Booster Plus

Once you got both Game Plugins and Game Booster Plus installed, you can tap on the Game Booster Plus and start exploring the features. For me, I’ll just select one of the games, drag the handle from below, and just max out all the sliders. I do that because I want to test out the device’s full potential when it comes to the gaming performance, but you might want to finetune this according to what you want.

I also check “apply to all games” because why not?

Then, hit apply and restart all the games.

4. Enable GPUWatch (optional)

This is an optional step. If you want to do it, then great – because for the purpose of this article, GPUWatch is only used to monitor the render resolution of a particular application. We’re using that to proof that there is a change in the render resolution when we change the settings in Game Booster Plus.

This is a fairly easy thing to do since it is built-in to most – if not all – Samsung devices. It’s also very easy to enable too. All we have to do is to enable Developer Options – you can follow any guides available on the internet – and then head into the Developer Options menu.

From there, we’ll have to scroll somewhere near the bottom of the long menu until we find something called GPUWatch. Just go in there and enable it.

There are a few settings here that you can mess around with – but I’m leaving everything in default because it already displays the FPS, the CPU & GPU utilization, and also the render resolution alongside the API that the application is using.

5. Launch your games

If you have GPUWatch enabled, you’ll now realize that all your games have a much higher render resolution compared to before modifying the settings in the Game Booster Plus menu. Higher render resolution means your games will look a lot sharper and less fuzzy-looking – which is ideal for games with sharp outlines and drawings.

Everything will look a lot better, but…

Side effects of enabling a higher render resolution

The most obvious side effect is potential lag, especially with higher-end games like Genshin Impact if played at high graphical settings. Your FPS will drop and potentially stutter during gameplay. Since the device is working harder to churn out frames at a higher resolution, the battery consumption is also higher. The device might even heat up and become uncomfortable to hold. However, given that Samsung has a strict thermal limit, the latter won’t happen.

However, you can enable a higher thermal limit on your Samsung device by doing what is shown in this article. Again, lots of steps but by enabling the “alternate game performance management” option, you can gain a lot more performance at the expense of even more battery life and the device will get even hotter.

Apologies for the dusty phone.

For us, since our job is to review the devices and to push the device as much as possible to see how much performance we can squeeze out of it, we enable the “alternate game performance management” option and max out the render resolution too.

And that is all we have for you today with this quick tutorial. We hope this article is able to provide useful information that you are looking for.
