1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid that looks like this:

2. Add Items to make an Iron Chain
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make an Iron Chain, place 1 iron ingot and 2 iron nuggets in the 3x3 crafting grid.
When making an Iron Chain, it is important that the iron ingot and iron nuggets are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be iron nugget in the middle box. In the second row, there should be 1 iron ingot in the middle box. In the third row, there should be 1 iron nugget in the middle box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for an Iron Chain.

Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the Iron Chain will appear in the box to the right.

3. Move the Iron Chain to Inventory
Once you have crafted an Iron Chain, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
