It's that time of year again. Friends and family descend on your home, and you're anxiously shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts and wrapping them up in a special way, baking Christmas cookies that no one (especially Santa!) can resist, cooking up a delicious Christmas meal, and setting the perfect Christmas table. Regarding the latter, there's so much to do! Creating an ooh-and-ahh worthy holiday centerpiece, breaking out the cherished Christmas tablecloth along with the "good" china. When you want to go the extra mile, why not take the linen from ho-hum to ho-ho-ho? With some simple steps, you can transform a napkin into an adorable little tree that will be the perfect addition to a holiday table—no matter what your design scheme for the year might be. For an even more personal touch, you might try topping it with a star-shaped name card or punched paper ornaments peaking through the folds. Once you get the folding down, you'll probably get more ambitious and inspired to take on even more holiday crafts. Good thing it's never too late to sit down and write a letter to old Saint Nick asking for a glue gun for all of your endeavors. In the meantime, get to folding!
Step 1

Iron a square napkin and lay flat—20- and 16-inch squares work great for this folding project. It doesn't matter if the front or back of the napkin is facing up.
Note: You may have to remove the tag from the napkin so it doesn't show in the final design.
Step 2

Fold napkin in half.

Fold the napkin in half again so you have a smaller square. Make sure all corners line up evenly.
Step 4

Rotate the napkin so that you create a diamond shape. The bottom point should have the loose corners.

Grab the first bottom corner and fold upward toward the top point.
Step 6

Continue to fold up each corner, staggering them slightly.

Keep going until your napkin looks like this.
Step 8

Sandwich the napkin between your hands with one on top to hold everything in place and one underneath. Flip it carefully.

Your napkin should look like this!
Step 10

Fold the lower outside corner to the opposite side. This creates a small triangle on the backside of the napkin.

Repeat for the other corner so that you have created a sharp point at the bottom.
Step 12

Flip the napkin over to the front side and rotate. (This would also make a cute version of a Christmas tree napkin fold if you wanted to stop at this step.)

Fold the top corner underneath itself to create a small triangle at the top.
Step 14

Slide the next corner into the triangle as shown here.

Continue this until all the corners are tucked away.
Step 16

Add a star! We used these wooden stars wiped with some Metallique Wax.
