Well, it’s almost Mother’s Day! The one day a year we get to honor mom, to show her how special she is and how much she means to us! What better way to do that than with flowers! Today I’m going old school Mother’s Day and showing you how to make a corsage for your Mom or Grandmother. Of course, this is the same corsage you would use for prom, weddings, and funerals.
In my previous post on how to make a boutonniere I go into how to find the smaller fresh flowers used to make small arrangements, my favorite stores to buy fresh flowers and more. You can also use silk flowers to make a corsage.
My favorite place for realistic silk flowers is Hobby Lobby craft store. Most craft stores carry flowers so if you do not have a Hobby Lobby in your area. You could always look at other stores for flowers. You can even find stems on Amazon! Let’s get started.

How to Make a Corsage
Supplies:
- Flowers: You will need 2-3 small-medium flowers, two small filler flowers and/or filler greenery, {I used two medium white roses, one small green chrysanthemum, one small hydrangea sprig, random filler sprigs, and leaves}
- Floral Tape
- 22-24 Gauge Floral Wire
- Wire Cutters or Heavy Duty Scissors
- 1/4 inch Ribbon
- Flower Preservative Spray
- Corsage Pins
- Corsage Plastic Box
Instructions:
Just like in my how-to Boutonniere post a corsage is basically a small bouquet, except they have a few more flowers and a bow.
Please read my How to Make a Boutonniere post for details on purchasing and prepping the flowers by trimming, wiring and taping them to strengthen the corsage before starting this project.
After you have prepped your flowers {trim, wire and tape them, again see the Boutonniere post}, start by grouping your flowers cascading in a diamond shaped formation.

Start with larger flowers on top and in the middle. Tape them together to make a base. Add smaller flowers on either side of the large ones. Add your filler flowers and leaves to fill in the gaps.

Hold tightly and tape all your stems together with floral tape. Stretch the tape as you go to activate the tacky bond.

Trim the wires at the end of the corsage. Bend the wires under and tape them, so they will not snag the fabric the corsage will be pinned to.

Make a simple bow by looping a ribbon in and out of your fingers.

Add wire to the center of bow and twist. Attach the bow with the wire into the stem of your corsage and cover it with tape. Wrap the bottom of the stem with ribbon if desired. (Se boutonniere post for ribbon tutorial).
Mist your flowers with water or a flower preservative spray if you like. There are lots of recipes for flower preservatives on the internet. {FYI~ I just used water and everything was fine}. Place the Corsage in a plastic container and place it in the refrigerator overnight. Be careful not to mist the ribbon it may change the color or ruin the look of the fabric.
For best results and no drooping, pin your corsage to the fabric horizontally with a corsage pin, weaving in and out through the fabric and that’s it! So pretty and easy to make!
