How To Make A Pine Cone Wreath - MY 100 YEAR OLD HOME
Maybe your like
I love making wreaths, especially for winter. Today I am sharing how to make a pine cone wreath that was fun to make.

Last Spring I made my first pine cone wreath. I made it blind, meaning I didn’t know what I was doing, and it took me a while to figure out how to cut the darn pine cones. This time around I figured it out!
I love the pink pine cone wreath I made last Spring and it’s hanging in my kitchen right now.

Today I have joined seven very talented bloggers to share a winter DIY project. I made a white winter wreath from pine cones. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom to see all of their amazing DIYs.
How awesome is this white oval pine cone wreath that I made this week? There are so many places in our home where it can hang.

I do like my new wreath hanging in our dining room.

This vintage shutter is from Debra Hall Lifestyle.
I love the textures in this photo. I just realized this wreath will be in style year round!

What You Need to Make This Craft
- Grape vine wreath – oval or round
- pine cones – 2 dozen
- shears/clippers
- glue gun
- fresh or faux eucalyptus
- acrylic paint – beige, white, tan

I wasn’t able to make this wreath in my craft room because on the same day I was cleaning and organizing my craft room for the blog post this week!
So I covered our kitchen island with newspaper and made it in the kitchen.
The hardest part to making this wreath is cutting the pine cones. I found some really good shears that allow you to cut them a bit easier.
Each pine cone should net you two pine cone “flowers”. The larger flowers are made by cutting a piece off the bottom. I like to count up about three rows of cone scales, and then I use the cutters to cut through the center. You might need to cut around the center. Which means cut and twist. And cut and twist more.
Then you can cut off a top piece for a smaller flower.

This is what they look like. All of the flowers shown here are shown from the top side of the pine cone.

Here is a close up of one of my flowers. I didn’t worry too much about cutting around the center.

Occasionally (quite often) when you are cutting the pinecones, the pieces may break into pieces. No worries!
All you need to do is glue the broken pieces together. See how great the flower looks glued back together!

Once you have enough flowers then it’s time to paint them. (I used 30.) Pick any palette you want. I chose winter white.
I don’t like painting all of the flowers the same color so I mixed the white and brown so that I had three slightly different shades of off-white.

If you look closely you can see how these flowers are all shades of off-white.

I love seeing the painted pine cones. I liked leaving the centers unpainted.

I like adding some greens to the grapevine wreath before I add the pine cones. I bought some eucalyptus for this project, put them in my car, and forgot about them.
Since we live in Southern California, and it’s warm, the eucalyptus dried quite perfectly in the trunk of my car. You can use fresh eucalyptus but you might want to dry it in your car first. Haha. Otherwise faux works great too.

The next step is to glue the pinecones on top of the eucalyptus (with a glue gun). Be sure to glue the pine cones to the wreath and not the eucalyptus.

I am so excited how this turned out. I love it.
