- How to make a tin can drum
How to make a tin can drumloading...Try the Good Food app - subscribe todayKids will enjoy making their own colourful drum almost as much as they’ll like playing them! Try this simple craft activity in the holidays.
Feel the rhythm with these funky tin can drums and adorable pom-pom drumsticks. This project is perfect for any little drummer boy or girl in the house, and it’s a great use for any cans you might have waiting to get recycled. Parents – be sure to wash, dry and check your can for any sharp edges before you start. If you’re worried, a cardboard gravy container will do the job just as well – and will be quieter, too!

Prep20 mins, plus drying time
You will need
- A balloon
- Scissors
- A ring-pull tin can (being careful to check for sharp edges) or a cardboard gravy container
- PVA glue
- Ribbon or decorations of choice
- 2 paper straws
- 2 small pom-poms
Method
- Cut off the neck of the balloon. Stretch the remaining balloon over the top of the tin. Pull the sides of the balloon down so that the top is taught, and the balloon has a firm grip on the sides of the tin. It should stay in place, but you could use an elastic band or tape to keep it secure if not.
- Glue on the decorations and allow to dry.
- To make a drumstick, glue a pom-pom to the end of a straw. Repeat for the second drumstick and allow to dry. Now you’re ready to bang out a rhythm!
