Required Materials to make a Torch

In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use to craft a torch:

charcoal 1 Charcoal stick 1 Stick coal 1 Coal TIP: You can use either coal or charcoal to make a torch! You don't need them both.

How to craft a Torch in Survival Mode

1. Open the Crafting Menu

First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid that looks like this:

3x3 crafting area

2. Add Items to make a Torch

There are two recipes to make a torch. The first recipe uses 1 stick and 1 coal and the second recipe uses 1 stick and 1 charcoal. Both recipes will create 4 torches at a time.

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make a torch, place 1 coal/charcoal and 1 stick in the 3x3 crafting grid.

When making a torch, it is important that the coal/charcoal and the stick are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, the coal/charcoal should be in the middle box. In the second row, the stick should be in the middle box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a torch.
