I can’t believe it took me almost one year to post about this recipe and yet I’ve been making it regularly at home since I was little. Our family, especially my dad and husband, love boiled peanuts. They make a good pre-dinner snack or even after dinner. In Indonesia, you can spot boiled peanuts, kacang rebus, sellers selling these in a cart.

The ingredients

Cooking peanuts is super duper easy and you only need 2 ingredients.

  • Peanuts. Use raw peanuts that are not dehydrated
  • Salt. And just use regular salt
  • Water

How to make boiled peanuts

  1. Rinse the peanuts thoroughly, then transfer them to a pot. Add salt and water, then stir until completely dissolved
  2. Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer for 45 minutes – 1 hour
  3. Pop one peanut to check the consistency you want. I prefer it to be soft, but not mushy. If it’s not ready yet, continue to boil and check every 20 minutes until done

How to eat boiled peanuts

They are traditionally served warm in a paper bag or newspaper cones. Some stores also sell them in a container in the fridge section. Hence, they can be served hot or cold. You can also serve these with other snacks, such as roti bakar, pukis cake, and wedang jahe (ginger tea).

Storing

Peanuts stay nice and warm. You can leave them on the counter at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to 10 days.
