Easy Saddle Stitch for sewing leather knife sheaths

Let the Kydex cool for at least ten minutes. The knife sheath can then be removed from the press. You can finish cutting out the shape with a pin or band saw and then smooth out the shape on a belt sander. The halves can be attached with grommets. Start by designing the sheath. Kydex is easy to work with and you can make a variety of sheath designs with it. The two basic designs are one piece fold over or two pieces grommeted together.

We heated up the Kydex in an oven at 325 degrees. It only takes a few minutes to warm up. Test it with a spatula. As soon as its flexible take it out. You do not want to overheat it.

We used a simple press made from foam and 1x6 pine. Lay the heated Kydex on top of the knife and in the position you want and then clamp the press together,
