Making Coffee Beans Last Longer

Sometimes we might need to make our coffee beans last just a little bit longer. When we are in that situation, we like to make “instant coffee” from coffee beans!

Now, it isn’t the official way and it is a bit different (AND EASIER) than how it is officially done, but it can help stretch those beans out a little bit longer and last longer.

Is this a perfect solution? Well, I suppose that depends on the situation. But it certainly is A solution that works pretty darn well to save some money and stretch the life of those delicious coffee beans out just a bit longer.

How to Make Instant Coffee From Coffee Beans

Add desired coffee beans to the coffee grinder.

Put it on the finest setting available.

Grind the beans.

Remove the compartment with the coffee powder.

Place sifter on top of a medium bowl and add ground coffee. Sift into bowl.

Anything still left in the sifter, send through the grinder again. You can also use a high powdered blender or food processor if you feel it works better than your coffee grinder.

How to Use Homemade Instant Coffee

Simply add the desired amount of coffee powder (I start with around 1 teaspoon) to your coffee cup. You can always add more if needed.

Now, just add hot water and stir!

Will There Be Small Coffee Grounds In My Coffee?

Any remaining non dissolved coffee grounds will settle to the bottom of your cup, so you don’t need to worry about gritty coffee!

Now, I would not recommend sucking down that last sip, however, as you may get a bit more than tasty coffee!

Essential Tools

There are only 3 things that you’ll need to make your own instant coffee.

Coffee Grinder – We love our coffee grinder. We got this one at Bed, Bath and Beyond, but you can also get it on Amazon if you don’t already have one.

Coffee Beans – I like medium roast beans like these. I get mine at either Costco or on Amazon.

Super Fine Strainer – Finally, a super fine strainer is needed. The finer you get it the more of a fine powder you will end up with. Less chunks.

How to Store Fresh Ground Coffee Powder?

You should store your coffee powder in an airtight container. I like to use mason jars such as these as they work really well!

How Long Will Homemade Coffee Powder Last?

It is generally agreed upon that freshly ground coffee will stay fresh (if properly store) for 7-10 days.

I like to make small batches at a time since whole coffee beans stay fresher for longer. Make what you need for the week and you are set!

Notes
