TASTE SAFE KINETIC SAND RECIPE

This looks and feels just like store bought kinetic sand but way less expensive and it is homemade! The coolest part about this DIY kinetic sand is that it is taste safe! There is no actual sand in it! Which means a little less stress for mom while your little one plays freely. Nonetheless, it is always important to watch our kid’s carefully during play time as taste safe does not mean edible, it means just that, safe to taste.

If you have never seen kinetic sand before or are wondering what kinetic sand is used for, I can tell you that it not only is incredibly fun and satisfying to play with, it also helps develop fine motor skills as your little ones, squish, smash, or build with it.

Here’s how to make this homemade kinetic sand recipe!

MATERIALS:

  1. 1 cup baking soda

  2. 1/2 cup sugar

  3. 1/2 cup corn starch

  4. 1 tbsp cream of tartar

  5. 2-4 tbsp of water, separated

  6. Food coloring

  7. Medium bowl

  8. Whisk

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Pour the baking soda, sugar, corn starch and cream of tartar into a bowl. Mix well.

  2. Add a few drops of food coloring to 1/4 cup water

  3. Add 2 tbsp of water to the mixture and mix using a whisk

  4. If the sand doesn’t clump together, add another tbsp of water and mix well using the whisk. It should feel like a fluffy texture.

Storage Tip: Place in a zip close bag or air tight container with no air inside.
