For those that have elementary-age children, then you are probably well aware of the slime craze that has taken over.

Well, we're bringing back one of our kid's favorites, silly putty. Added bonus is that it only takes two ingredients that you most likely have at your house right now!

Dawn soap holds a special place in my heart. They do so much good for wildlife preservation through organizations like International Bird Rescue, Marine Mammal Center, and so much more. Homemade Silly Putty

Growing up as a kid of the '80s, silly putty was all the rage. We would love to make homemade putty as well as the store-bought kind.

The store-bought silly putty was light flesh-colored and was so much fun! We would spread it out on the newspaper and it would copy the ink. We would stretch it all over the house and inevitably get it stuck in the carpet or our hair.

Knowing how much fun we had with it, it is no wonder the fun of slime and homemade silly putty, play dough, and slime has come back with a vengeance. So much fun! That's why we are sharing how to make it for yourself with just a few ingredients you probably have at home.

Silly Putty Ingredients

You can simply mix these two ingedients together and get some putty fun. Of course, adding a bit of food coloring makes it fun too. Here is how you do it!

• Corn Starch
• Dawn Dish Soap
• Food Coloring (optional)

How to Make Silly Putty

Grab a small bowl for mixing.

Add two tablespoons of corn starch.

We always have dawn dish soap on hand.

Add one and a half tablespoons of dish soap to the bowl.

Food coloring is optional. We like to make different colored silly putty.

Add 3 to 4 drops of food coloring to the bowl.

Using a spoon mix the ingredients together.

Once it starts to clump together grab it out of the bowl and kneed it together in your hands until it becomes silky and smooth.

Try different colors for added fun.

The kids will enjoy the feel and texture of playing with the silly putty.

It's not nearly as messy as slime, and it gives the little hands things to pull and play with.

I know there are a lot of kids into making slime these days. What I love about this DIY Silly Putty is that is just as fun as slime with only two ingredients. Who doesn't love that?

Alternative Silly Putty Recipes

There are of course alternative recipes for homemade silly putty. We of course encourage the simple soap and corn starch recipe, but in this case, you are looking to change it up. Here are a few.

How do you make homemade silly putty with glue?

Using glue is an easy mixture too. This uses two parts glue to one part liquid starch. So if you use ¼ cup liquid starch, then ½ cup glue (or glitter glue for sparkly)

How do you make silly putty with borax and glue?

Making silly putty with borax, water, and school glue is not too difficult. Similarly, mix equal parts glue and water and a few drops of food coloring. For a single batch ¼ cup each of water and glue. In a separate bole mix 1 tablespoon of borax in ⅛ cup of water. Once borax has dissolved, mix borax into a water mixture to make putty. Kneading the putty till it is the correct consistency.

How do you make silly putty with baking soda?

For this mixture, you are going to use a whole bottle of school glue (4 oz.) Pour into a bowl and mix with 1 and a ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Then add 1 teaspoon of borax into the glue mixture and knead till it hardens up.
