Status effects are very useful in Minecraft, they can help you with combat, exploration, and all sorts of things. However, these useful effects are usually inaccessible in the early game, or if you just haven't found a nether fortress yet. Suspicious stew solves this problem, allowing players to get helpful potion effects with just a bowl, some mushrooms, and a flower. Additionally, it provides access to some status effects that are otherwise unobtainable through potions, like the wither effect, saturation, and blindness.

Crafting Suspicious Stew

1. 1 Collect mushrooms. You will need 1 brown and 1 red mushroom to make suspicious stew. They can be found in areas with a light level of 12 or less. They are also commonly found in swamps, giant tree taigas, mushrooms fields, and the nether.[1]
   • On Bedrock Edition, mushrooms can also generate on fallen trees.
   • Mooshrooms, a mob found in mushroom fields, can be sheared to get 5 mushrooms. The type depends on whether the mooshroom was red or brown.[2]
   • Warped and crimson fungi from the nether cannot be used.
   • Giant mushrooms and mushroom blocks can be broken to obtain mushrooms as well.
2. 2 Collect flowers. You will need 1 flower of 1 type to make a suspicious stew. Flowers can be found in most biomes with dirt and grass. They are most commonly found in flower forests, plains, sunflower plains, and forests.[3] Different flowers will give different status effects. Below is a list of what flowers give which effect.[4]
   • Allium: Fire resistance
   • Azure Bluet: Blindness
   • Blue Orchid: Saturation. Blue orchids are only found in swamp biomes and woodland mansions.
   • Dandelion: Saturation
   • Cornflower: Jump boost
   • Lily of the Valley: Poison
   • Oxeye Daisy: Regeneration
   • Poppy: Night vision
   • Tulips: Weakness
   • Wither Rose: Wither (decay). Wither roses can only be obtained when a wither kills a mob.

3. 3 Make a crafting table. Find a tree and break it until you have at least 2 wood logs. Open your inventory and place the logs in the 2x2 crafting space in the top right corner, turn them into wooden planks. Then fill all 4 spaces with a wooden plank to make a crafting table. You should have 4 wooden planks leftover.
4. 4 Craft bowls. First, place and open your crafting table. Then put a wooden plank in the left slot in the middle row, a plank in the middle of the bottom row, and a plank in the right slot in the middle row. It is the same recipe as a bucket, except using wooden planks instead of iron. This will give you 4 bowls.
5. 5 Craft the stew. Open either your inventory crafting space or a crafting table, you can use either one. Place the bowl in the bottom left corner and place the red mushroom, brown mushroom, and flower of your choice in the 3 spaces around the bowl. This will give you a stew. Advertisement

Milking Brown Mooshrooms

1. 1 Get a trident. Drowned are zombie enemies that spawn underwater, around underwater ruins, and when zombies are submerged in water.[5] They have a chance of spawning holding a trident. Drowned that spawn holding tridents have an 8.5% chance of dropping it[6] , so be prepared to kill a lot of drowned to get a trident.
2. 2 Make a crafting table. Find a tree and break it until you have at least 2 wood logs. Open your inventory and place the logs in the 2x2 crafting space in the top right corner, turn them into wooden planks. Then, fill all 4 spaces with a wooden plank to make a crafting table. You should have 4 wooden planks left over.
3. 3 Make an enchanting table. To make an enchanting table, you will need to gather 4 obsidian, a book, and 2 diamonds. Obsidian can be found where lava meets water and mined using a diamond pickaxe or better.[7] Diamonds can be found by mining at Y-level 15 and below.[8] Books are primarily found by crafting one. Once you have all of these, open a crafting table and place 3 obsidian in the bottom row, and 1 obsidian in the middle of the middle row. Place the 2 diamonds on both sides of the middle obsidian and the book on top of the middle row obsidian.
   • Obsidian can also be obtained by looting chests in bastions, nether fortresses, ruined portals, and villages.[9] It can also be obtained from bartering with Piglins.

4. 4 Enchant your trident with channeling. Make and place 15 bookshelves around the enchantment table. Open it and place your trident and 3 lapis lazuli in the table. Look for the channeling enchantment, and if you see it, enchant the trident with it. If you do not see it, you can reset the enchantments by enchanting a useless tool or other item with a low level enchantment.
   • You can also enchant or obtain books enchanted with channeling. Channeling books can be obtained through fishing and looting chests in mineshafts, dungeons, temples, strongholds, woodland mansions, pillager outposts, and underwater ruins.[10]
   • You can use these enchanted books on a trident by combining the 2 items in an anvil.
   • You can use a grindstone to unenchant your trident if you got the wrong enchantment.
5. 5 Craft bowls. First, place and open your crafting table. Then put a wooden plank in the left slot in the middle row, a plank in the middle of the bottom row, and a plank in the right slot in the middle row. It is the same recipe as a bucket, except using wooden planks instead of iron. This will give you 4 bowls.

7. 7 Find a mushroom field biome. They are a very rare biome that is full of mycelium, which looks like purple grass, and giant mushrooms[11] . Since they are so rare, you'll have to be prepared to explore for a long time if you do not already know where one is.
   • If you are having trouble finding one and cheats are enabled, you can type /locatebiome mushroom_fields in chat and enter it. This will give you the coordinates to a mushroom field biome.
8. 8 Wait for a thunderstorm. Thunderstorms are an uncommon, randomly occurring event in the overworld.[12] You will know when a thunderstorm is happening because you will see flashes of lightening and see lots of rain.
   • If you do not want to wait and you have cheats enabled, you can type the command /weather thunder in chat and enter it.
9. 9 Find a mooshroom. Mooshrooms are red and white cows with mushrooms growing on their backs. They will only spawn in mushroom field biomes.
   • On Java Edition, they will spawn on mycelium in mushroom field biomes if it is at a light level of 9 or higher.[13]
   • On Bedrock Edition, they will spawn in mushroom field biomes at a light level of 7 or higher.[14]
10. 10 Throw your channeling trident at a mooshroom. If a thunderstorm is currently happening and you hit the mooshroom, a bolt of lightning should strike it and it should turn brown.[15]
11. 11 Feed the brown mooshroom a flower. Feed it the flower you want your suspicious stew to be made of.
12. 12 Milk the mooshroom. Use the bowl on the brown mooshroom and the bowl should fill with suspicious stew.[16] If you want multiple stews, you will need to feed the mooshroom a flower after each milking. Advertisement
