Learn More →When you run out of the potholder loopers that come with a potholder loom kit, don't run out and purchase some more. First, search your house for old T-shirts and make your own potholder loopers. Creating your own weaving loops is a great way to avoid spending money on ready-made loopers--and it's an activity that will give all your cast-off tee shirts a second life.
Things You'll Need:
- Old T-Shirts
- Scissors
- Acrylic Ruler
- Rotary Cutter
Cut old T-shirts into rectangles that measure 2 1/2 inches wide and 6 inches long. Use a clear acrylic ruler and a rotary cutter to make quick, accurate cuts.
Fold a T-shirt fabric rectangle in half width-wise. the piece of folded fabric should measure 2 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches long.
Cut a slit up the center of the folded fabric, starting at the fold and ending about 1/2 inch from the top. Use either a rotary cutter or a pair of sharp fabric scissors.
Round the upper corners. Using sharp fabric circles, cut off the corners opposite the folded edge. Create a gentle curve as you cut.
Open the piece of folded T-shirt fabric. It should look like an oblong oval with a slit cut through the middle.
Stretch out the fabric to open up the slit and cause the fabric surrounding it to curl in on itself.
