All the calculations were made using all-purose flour.

While exploring the internet, you may encounter various recipes. Some may list ingredients using cups and spoons, while others may opt for measurements by weight. If you’re like me and prefer to cook with measuring spoons and cups rather than scales, this article is designed for you. You have an excellent chance to find out how to determine the right amount of flour using just a simple tablespoon.

All the numbers and calculations provided were derived using metric spoons. This means that we used a tablespoon with a capacity of 15 ml, a dessert spoon of 10 ml, and a teaspoon of 5 ml. However, if you don’t have metric spoons, it’s likely that your standard tablespoon from your kitchen has a volume of about 15 ml or exactly that.

How many grams are in a tablespoon of flour?

One tablespoon holds 8 grams of flour.

How many grams of flour does a dessertspoon hold?

One dessertspoon holds 5.30 grams of flour.

How many grams of flour are in a teaspoon?

One teaspoon holds 2.60 grams of flour.

Now, you know the weight of flour per spoon, so let`s see how you can measure flour without scales and a measuring cup. The formula to use is pretty simple:

Divide the weight of flour listed in the ingredients by the weight of flour in one spoon.

For example, if your recipe requires 138 grams of flour, you need to divide 138 by 8. The result is 17.25 or 17 ¼ (seventeen and a quarter tablespoons), which is the number of tablespoons of flour you need for your recipe.
