How to open the hood of the BMW iX? There are two things you need to do

  • News

In case you’ve purchased the BMW iX and you’re wondering how to open the hood, you might be a bit baffled by the lack of a conventional hood release lever.

Well, the thing is, it isn’t something entirely encouraged by BMW, and this might come as a bummer to the average motoring enthusiast.

What you need to do is to pull two release cables situated at the left and right end of the dashboard. Worry not, they don’t have to be pulled simultaneously.

They can be pulled in sequence, very much like the two-step release lever in other BMW cars. They’re not that obvious, but we hope you can find them with the help of these images provided.

Oh, and to further discourage the customer from “popping the hood”, the BMW iX doesn’t even have a proper hood prop as shown by this unit here where the hood needs to be propped up by an allen key (or anything of equivalent strength)

Allen key to prop the hood up. Doesn't look very OEM does it?

Now it makes sense why BMW made the wiper fluid funnel accessible via the BMW emblem flap. It was so that you had no reason to access the “engine bay” area. Hmmmm

They didn't do this to be fancy. They did it so you have no reason to "pop the hood"
