ThunderHex T So today I managed to lock both my normal and spare key in the boot. I called the RAC (Australian roadside assistance people), who managed to get enough of a gap in the door with a wedge to use a wire hook to pull the door handle from the inside, making it possible to get in the car. However, as you may know, the boot release switch/button thing won't work unless the car is either unlocked, or the key is in the ignition switch. The 'unlock doors' button will also not work if you 'break in' to the car. However, if you do manage to get into the car, you can open the boot with a little bit of fuse magic. I found a video (link below) which was poor quality, but the trick worked flawlessly. Basically take your fuse box cover off (the fuse box in the rear passenger seat, right side of the car), remove the yellow fuse, wait a minute or so, then while someone else holds the boot release switch up/in the active position, put the fuse back in, and the boot pops open. Note that in the video, he removes the entire back seat and gets the fuse box out fully, you don't need to do this. Just get a flathead screwdriver, and lever the cover open (above the little light on the cover there's a notch, put the head of the screwdriver in there). Here's the video: Saved me a lot of money and a lot of time, hopefully someone on here sees it and can use this method too! #1 · May 26, 2018 So today I managed to lock both my normal and spare key in the boot. Just pull the right rear floor light out, pull the yellow 20-Amp fuse out, replace it while someone holds one of the trunk release buttons. Two minutes, tops. #3 · May 26, 2018 I thought the same thing haha 0 Reply #4 · May 26, 2018 Very glad to see this, though. Th basic approach might really save some time and trouble when carelessness and/or stupidity strikes, and we lock our keys in the trunk. I doubt that the exact situation - car locked, but door open - happens very often, though. I would expect the alarm horn to be blaring... #5 · May 26, 2018 (Edited) Thanks for sharing. My method is a bit different. Before disaster strikes, remove the one bolt permanently that holds the license plate cover. Put some caulk to fill the hole if you want. If you need to get into truck, simply remove the license plate holder, and there will be a small visible hole. With needle nose pliers- place in the hole onto the metal rod, pull down on the rod and the trunk will pop right open. Very easy. If one did not remove the license plate bolt prior, it can be drilled out fairly quickly and easy.
