How to Unlock Machine Overrides and More Mounts

To override machines, you must first locate any of the Tap to Reveal available Cauldrons found across the map. Keep in mind that each Cauldron is responsible for creating a set of unique machines typically found around the region.

Once you’ve located a Cauldron, you must fight your way through the facility as you attempt to reach and override its core. If you’re successful, you’ll learn overrides for several unique machines, along with potential mounts.

However, overriding works a little differently in Forbidden West, as not every machine you initially gain access to will be available to override straight away. Instead, when viewing the machine catalog via the Notebook, you’ll find that a machine may be fully unlocked and ready to override, or just partially.

Should the machine be partially unlocked, you will be required to craft an override via the Fabrication Terminal found within Tap to Reveal. Once you’ve gathered the resources necessary and have crafted the override, you’ll gain the ability to override the machine in the wild.

Once a machine’s override is unlocked, approach it stealthily and hold down Triangle when prompted. Depending on its override abilities, the machine will fight for you for a limited duration, or it will become available as a ridable mount.

Furthermore, should you unlock the Override Subroutines skill via the Machine Master Skill Tree, you’ll have the ability to set a machine’s behavior to be either aggressive or defensive when overriding.
