How to peel and Pit an avocado 5 Simple Steps
If you follow these 5 simple steps you will get the most yield out of this berry. Yes, it is a berry it is not a vegetable.
When I found out for the first time I was also surprised. It is also important to learn how to tell if an avocado is ripe and how to ripen an avocado.
This is the easiest way to remove avocado skin.
Wash the avocado

So you are probably saying why do I need to wash it? I am going to use the insides, not the outside.
Well, as soon as you cut the avocado you push whatever is on the outside of the avocado into the flesh of the fruit.
So, go ahead and do a wash underwater and try to scrub the skin. If you have one of those veggie brushes go ahead and use that.
The idea with this step is to not go crazy just give it a general wash.
Cut the avocado in Half

You want to cut the avocado in half. Go ahead and cut it the long way.
Make sure to do this nice and slow seeing that you will have the knife moving around the avocado towards your hand.
It is a good idea to dry off the avocado before you start, so the knife cant slip. After you cut it pull the two halves away from one another.
It is really important to have a really sharp knife. If the avocado is too ripe it will tear more than it will cut.
I have an entire post on how to cut an avocado as well as how to store avocados.
How To Remove the Seed Of An Avocado

Take your knife and set it into the seed of the avocado. Twist the knife and the seed should fall out.
I like to use a dish towel for two reasons: One, it protects my hand a bit and two, it helps me grip the slimy seed.
You could also use a wooden spoon or spatula, that way you don’t need to get close to the knife.
Slice the halves into quarters

Now that you have the avocado with the seed removed and sliced in half, you want to cut the two halves in half. In the end, you will have four slices of avocado.
If the avocado is really big you could also cut them again and now you will have eight slices.
Peel the slices

Now just grab the outside part of one of the slices from the top and pull it away from the avocado.
The rich green part that you see closest to the peel is actually the most nutrient-dense part of the fruit and you saved it.
This is why peeling an avocado in this manner is the best way to yield the best parts of an avocado.
If you had used a spoon then you would have probably missed a lot of the avocado.
Should you peel an avocado?
Yes, absolutely… when you peel an avocado you’re going to get the best yield and the dark green flesh that is next to the outer shell which holds the best nutrients of the fruit.
How to pit an avocado?
This is so easy! After you have cut the fruit in half, use the blade of the knife to hold the pit and then twist the knife.
You have to make sure that the avocado is ripe or you will not be able to pull the pit from the avocado.
How to pick a ripe avocado?
This is one of those things that you really need to go by feel. If the fruit is hard as a rock then it is not ripe. The avocado has to have some give to it but not be total mush.
You will typically get a darker color and a little give to the outer part of the fruit when you push on it.
